The World Today's winning entry bubbled over with stories of real life from around the globe. The testimony of farmers, doctors, soldiers, politicians, prisoners, house wives and car workers was, by turns, moving, engaging and informative. By reaching out to ordinary people, the judges felt the programme helped us learn some genuine global truths. What shone through every minute of the entry was the compassion, respect and understanding the programme had for every contributor. That was regardless of whether they were rich or poor, powerful or weak, from familiar territory or the furthest ends of the planet. What amazed was the programme's ability to range far and wide and yet make us feel so close to our global neighbours.
