The Judges thought that this was a unique story and Radio Suffolk ran with it, providing well produced coverage with exceptional effort to make a first class technical link with the USA. This was and is a true event with a storyline that draws you in and provided you with a first class audio picture of Bartholomew Gosnold on the 400th anniversary of the first permanent settlement in the USA.
The judges were impressed by the range of music featured and the deep knowledge, and love that the presenters expressed for it. The excellent sound quality achieved meant that listeners really did feel that they were 'there'.
If ever there were a challenge to provide informative and absorbing coverage of a political event, making it accessible to millions of people, it would be the Chinese Party Congress. This was true commitment by Local Radio where the schedule was cleared to pay tribute to a local hero and the radio station acted as one with its audience to represent its people. We felt that Radio Leeds should be commended for this dedication.
The judges nominated this entry for the clear delight that the entire team took in bringing these events alive on air. Rather than just holding a mirror up to what was happening, their enthusiasm magnified the music and atmosphere in a truly engaging way.
