John Myers is formerly Chief Executive of the Guardian Media Group's Radio Division, building the division from scratch after joining GMG in 2009. Since then GMG has grown to become the third largest radio group in the UK housing the Real, Rock and Smooth Radio brands and winning a number of awards for creativity and management performance.
An accomplished producer and presenter in his own right, John has recently returned to his roots behind the microphone alongside assisting a number of companies with media interests.
A veteran of some 30 years in radio, John knows what makes a good programme or station succeed and is able to bring his vast experience to the task of judging some of the entries for the Sony Radio Awards. John's success in radio was highlighted when Lord Carter asked John to undertake the Myers Review into Local Radio which was completed in April 2009. A number of John's recommendations were widely accepted and are due to be implemented across the industry.
John is a former Chairman of the Radio Academy, a member of the Sony Radio Committee and a proud Fellow of the Radio Academy, after being awarded the fellowship in 2002.
