Each year the Sony Radio Academy Awards Committee appoints a panel of judges for each category, varying in size according to the number of entries received and chosen because of a particular expertise that relates directly to whichever kind of radio they have been asked to assess.
Each category is judged by a separate panel and the judging process takes place simultaneously across all categories with no panel ever aware of the decisions reached by other panels.
The judges represent a broad cross-section of backgrounds, be they presenters, journalists, producers or broadcasting professionals, but all are united in their endeavours by their love of radio.
The 2010 Awards Judges will be appointed in January 2010 and further details will be available in February 2010 once judging has commenced.
