A9: Best Breaking News Coverage

This category is designed to recognise the skilful way in which a specific news story has been handled for its target audience. Judges will be looking at the breaking, follow through and onward development of any news story.

To be considered for this award, you must submit the following audio:

ONE MP3 (up to 55MB) to consist of a compilation of 4 to 6 bulletins or programme extracts in transmission sequence across the news story, lasting no longer than 30 minutes in total. Extracts must be separated by a fade into and out of a 1 second gap, so that it is clear to the judges where each extract begins and ends. Music, promos and adverts (but no other content) may be telescoped within each extract.

All material must have been broadcast in 2009.

To accompany your audio, you are also required to submit a written summary (no more than 250 words) explaining your objectives, target audience, challenges and/or achievements. Please do not assume that the judges will have prior knowledge of your audience or the news story – any information you can give to explain the context of your audio will be beneficial.

Please note: Beyond the information requested, no further supporting material will be considered. Judges reserve the right not to judge an entry if the submission requirements have not been met.
