PROGRAMME AWARDS

A12: Best Internet Programme

This category recognises excellence in the creation of radio programmes produced for distribution via the internet and other IP-based technologies. Entries are invited from publishers and producers of podcasts, downloads, internet stations and audio streams.

Judges will be seeking to reward entries which make effective use of the medium, recognising the fact that creating and editing material for internet distribution calls for a range of techniques, some of which are distinct from those used in traditional broadcasting. Successful entrants are likely to have used creative and original audio ideas and formats, rather than simply re-broadcasting programmes which have already been transmitted in another medium.

To be considered for this award, you must submit the following audio:

ONE MP3 (up to 55MB) to consist of a single programme, lasting no longer than 60 minutes in total. Music, promos and adverts (but no other content) may be telescoped.

To accompany your audio, you are also required to submit a written summary (no more than 250 words) explaining your objectives, target audience, challenges and/or achievements. Please do not assume that the judges will have prior knowledge of your audience or your programme – any information you can give to explain the context of your programme will be beneficial.

Since these Awards are designed to encourage excellence in the use of sound, the judges will evaluate the audio programming only; interactive offers and added visual and graphic content will only be considered as supporting material. Such visuals can be submitted in print format. In addition, if the programme is currently available via the net, entrants may also supply the URL.

If third party copyrights (i.e. music or literary works or recordings not directly controlled by the audio producer itself) are included in the submitted programming, then entries must include firm evidence that the necessary rights have been obtained and the prerequisite agreements are in place, such as copies of agreements with MCPS, PPL, PRS, AIM or the relevant copyright owner. Any entry submitted in association with a third party brand name must be accompanied by evidence of support from that organisation.

Entries must have been streamed or made available for download or subscription via the internet, or other IP-based technologies, between 01 January 2009 and 31 December 2009.

In common with all other entries, the judges will be looking for evidence that the programme was primarily intended for UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man listeners. Submissions will only be judged from entrants functioning legally and conforming to the accepted standards of taste, decency and responsibility, to which licensed UK broadcasters are committed.

Judges reserve the right not to judge an entry if the submission requirements have not been met.
