Entries are now being accepted into the 2008 Sony Radio Academy Awards, the UK’s most coveted radio honours.
Entry forms and full details on the Categories and Conditions of Entry are available now.
The closing date for entries is: Wednesday 23rd January 2008 and the winners will be announced at a gala ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House on Monday 12th May 2008.
2008 will mark the 26th year of the Sony Radio Academy Awards and there are a total of 32 categories to enter, covering the full range and depth of UK radio programming, and divided into 4 main groups. The ‘Programme Awards’ recognise regular output as opposed to one-off productions. The ‘Personality Awards’ celebrate outstanding individual contributions, and the ‘Production Awards’ are designed to include the kind of output that tends to depend more upon the input of writers and producers than upon an on-air personality or presenter. The fourth Group, the ‘Station Awards’, aim to recognise a station’s overall success.
This year there is one new category The Multiplatform Radio Award, which will celebrate the many and varied ways in which multiplatform services are utilised to extend and enrich the listener experience.
Tim Blackmore, Chairman of the Sony Radio Academy Awards Committee said: “As new developments occur within this industry, these Awards have always sought to create opportunity for their promotion. The introduction of ‘Digital Station of the Year’ and ‘Internet Programme’ did just that, and this year we want to recognise the growing input of those whose work enhances the listening experience through associated activity on other platforms including the web and other communication networks.”
The Local and Regional Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced last year to recognise the long term and significant contribution of a local/regional broadcaster or practitioner returns this year as a free to enter category. Stations and individuals are invited to submit an audio CD of their own, or their chosen nominee’s, career highlights. The inclusion this year of the words ‘Local and Regional’ is to emphasise the targeted nature of this award.
